Greece was
the country where the democracy was born around 2500 years ago. Today, 25 of January
of 2015, in the same country, are going to be celebrated the elections which
the people are going to vote the new president/government of the country. But these
elections aren’t as democratic as they should be. That’s because the different
European leaders had said that if Syriza, a new party with a more left-wing ideology,
win the elections Greece will leave the Euro and some of its economic
conditions would be changed. Also some of the different sectors of the global
economy say that if this party wins they will let the country fall down.
With all this,
the sovereignty of the people of the country is lost, given that the votes are determinate
by the fear of the people.
These actions
contrast with the etymology of the word democracy. Democracy is a Greek word
that came from the word “demokratos”. This word is composed by other two ones, “demo”
that means people of the country and “kratos” that means power. So the meaning
of the word is “the power of the people”. In this case the power to choose the
party in which they trust is been pressurize.
